earphones on rubber tubes, on "Queen Anne"-style metal legs, overall height 57 in. This kind of machine was installed in ferry terminals in the New York area to entertain the waiting passengers. Good original work- ing condition. One of the rarest Edison coin-op ma- chines.

Hersteller: Manhattan Phonograph Company, New York, mit Edisons Suitcase Standard Phonograph, um- gerüstet auf automatisches Abspielen, mit zusätzlichem Federwerk für den Rückholmechanismus, ungewöhnli- cher Münzmechanismus mit langer Rampe und Metall- trichter zum Auffangen der Münze, mit Hufeisenmagnet zum Aussortieren von Falschgeld, genial konstruiert und sehr effektiv. In Eichenholzgehäuse mit Front- und Seitenpaneelen, klappbare Front mit Vorhängeschloß für die Münzkasse, zweiseitig verglaster Deckel mit großem gewölbtem Sichtfenster, seitliche Kurbel, Krone mit Original-Schild mit der Bedienungsanleitung aus Porzellan (kleine Abplatzung links oben), beschriftet mit "Edison Phonograph – Directions – Turn crank on side of cabinet 8 times and let go – then drop 1 cent in slot", mit Halterung für die beiden Hörer und die Schläuche. Auf geschwungenen Metallbeinen im "Queen Anne"-Stil. Gesamthöhe 144 cm. Diese Geräte wurden im New York des beginnenden 20. Jh. vor- nehmlich in den Wartehallen der Fährgesellschaften aufgestellt. – Gut funktionierender Originalzustand. Extrem selten.

Coin-operated phonograph, manufactured by The Man- hattan Phonograph Company, New York, fitted with an Edison "Suitcase" Standard mechanism modified for automatic coin-operation, with additional string-wound carriage return spring barrel; unusual coin chute with ramp, horseshoe magnet and brass catching cup (a simple but ingenious mechanism to reject bad money). In oak cabinet with front and lateral panels, drop-front for the cash box, hinged lid with lateral glass panels and rounded viewing glass, crank on the right side. Top with porcelain instruction plaque: "Edison Phonograph – Directions – Turn crank on side of cabinet 8 turns and let go – then drop 1 cent in slot", with mount for the
