Die erste und er- folgreiche Kopie war der "IMSAI 8080". – Das angebote- ne Gerät ist in sehr gutem Zustand, das Frontpanel ist klar lesbar – alle Switches funktionieren. Der Rechner funktio- niert, die LEDs blinken. Das Seriennummernschild ist vorhanden – A am Ende bedeutet "ASSEMBLED": Der Rechner wurde also vom Hersteller zusammengebaut. Enthalten ist das Original-"MITS CPU Board" und ein original MITS 1 K STATIC RAM Board bestückt mit 256 Bytes! Der Rechner läuft auf US 110 Volt. – Ein großes Exponat der frühen Computer-Geschichte!
MITS Altair 8800, 1974
The Altair was the first personal computer in the world to be offered in large quantities and is widely considered to be the "first" PC. The "MITS Altair" was built in 1974 by Ed Roberts and became instantly famous by being featured on the cover of "Popular Electronics" magazine in January 1975. Suddenly MITS was flooded with inquiries and or- ders for its new affordable PC. With the "Altair", Ed Rob- erts introduced the S-100 bus, predecessor to the ISA, PCI and all the current bus systems used in PCs. By modern standards the computer could not do much; it had neither a keyboard nor a monitor, nor even an operating system! Data entry was achieved via DIP switches in binary code since there was no monitor output, but LEDs. When Bill Gates and Paul Allen provided a higher operating system in the form of "Altair BASIC", the foundation stone was laid for "Microsoft" and the rest is computer history. The "MITS Altair" was also the first PC to have been copied. The first clone – the "IMSAI 8080" – was even more suc- cessful than the original. – This "Altair 8800" offered here is in excellent condition. The basic functions operate, the switches on the front panel work and the LEDs are blink- ing. The letter A at the end of the serial number plate indi- cates that it was purchased assembled. Included are the original "MITS CPU board" and a original MITS 1 K STATIC RAM board with 256 bytes. The machine runs on US 110 volt. – A fascinating exhibition piece of the early computer history!
