Guichard, Manila", Gehäusebreite 68 cm. 3 Töne im Diskant repariert, einige Dämpfer mit Nebengeräu- schen, ansonsten gut spielender Zustand. – Das Spiel- werk ist eine seltene Variante zwischen einer großforma- tigen Nicole-Frères-Ouvertüren-Spieldose mit 240 Tönen und einer Spieldose mit 2 Titeln pro Walzenumdrehung. Das Repertoire besteht vornehmlich aus schottischen Melodien, dem Jägerchor aus "Der Freischütz" und als letztem Titel "Die Marseillaise". Eine frühe und impo- sante Walzenspieldose von Nicole Frères.
Rare Key-Wind Grand Format Forte Piano Musical Box by Nicole Frères, c. 1845
No. 26868, playing 12 airs two-per-turn (Gamme No. 1060), with 115 teeth in the bass and 61 teeth in the treble combs (complete), stamped "Nicole Frères", brass bedplate stamped "Nicole Frères à Genève", ratchet-key and instant-stop control, in walnut case with red interior, hinged end-flap, tune-sheet and rosewood-veneered lid with inlay of engraved brass instruments, flowers, mother-of-pearl, imitation tortoisehell and colored enam- els, width 26 1⁄2 in. (68 cm), cylinder 16 1⁄2 in. (42 cm) x 3 1⁄4 in. (8,4 cm) diameter, three replacement treble teeth, a few damper squeaks, otherwise in good playing condi- tion. The lid bears label of "J.A. Guichard, Manila" with hand inscription "HOX, No. 26866". The "China Direc- tory" of foreign residents in China of 1861 lists A. Guich- ard of Guichard & Fils as a merchant in Manila. In- cluded in the lot are a photograph and a typed sheet describing the restoration of the musical box in Autumn 1959 following its discovery in a house in rural Maine. – The movement represents a rare variation between a typical Nicole grand format overture musical box of approx. 240 teeth and a large two-per-turn. The reper- toire is of predominantly Scottish airs and ballads con- cluded by "Choeur des Chasseurs" from "Freyschütz" and "La Marseillaise" on the final revolution. An early and impressive Nicole musical box.

No. 43940, playing 12 popular and operatic airs includ- ing "Telegramme Waltz No. 1", with 91 teeth in 2 combs (complete), zither, double-spring motor, tune- indicator and tune-sheet, in book-matched burr-walnut and tulipwood-veneered case with paneled front and lid, width 34 in. (86 cm), cylinder 19 1⁄4 in. (49,5 cm). Movement and case in excellent restored condition!
