Baby im Kohlkopf, Kopf und Hände aus Zelluloid, kleines Loch am linken Ellbogen, im Nacken gemarkt mit "France, 25" und Adler-Symbol der Firma Petitcol- lin, stoffummantelter Kohlkopf aus Papiermaché, Fe- derwerkmotor, Mechanik und Walzenspielwerk für 1 Melodie (2 Zähne defekt), mit "RD"-Schlüssel und Starthebel, Gesamthöhe 26,5 cm. Während die Musik spielt, hebt sich das Baby aus dem Kohlkopf, dreht sich voll im Kreis, wirft Kußhändchen, zieht sich dann wie- der in den Kohlkopf zurück. Gut funktionierender Zustand! Eine spätere Version des populären "Kanin- chen im Kohlkopf" von Roullet & Decamps, mit ungewöhnlichem Drehmechanismus.
With celluloid head and hands, marked on neck "France, 25" and eagle symbol for Petitcollin, open- spring mechanism playing a single air as baby rises from the centre of cloth-covered papier-mâché cabbage, turns in a full circle, throws kisses and then retreats. Height 10 1⁄2 in. (26,5 cm) up, working order, 2 teeth off musical comb, hole at left elbow, with incised steel "RD" key and brass stop/start. A later version of the popular model by Roullet et Decamps, with unusual "spinning" action.

Nach dem Original von David Roentgen und Peter Kinzing, Neuwied, aus dem Jahre 1784. Handgearbei- teter Mechanismus, Messing und Stahl auf Eichensoc- kel, Handkurbelantrieb, mit Stift- und Nockenkamm für Auf- und Abwärtsbewegung und seitliches Schwenken des Arms mit dem Hammer, Höhe 53 cm. Der Original- Automat wurde angeblich von Königin Marie- Antoinette in Auftrag gegeben und weist eine erstaunli- che Ähnlichkeit mit ihr auf. Contemporary Demonstration Model of the Action of "La Joueuse de Tympanon" Automaton by Roentgen and Kinzing
Hand-turned brass and steel mechanism with pinned arc and cam profile for the lateral and vertical move- ment of the musician's arm with hammer, on walnut base, height 20 3⁄4 in. (53 cm). A demonstration model of David Roentgen's and Peter Kinzing's celebrated "an- droid" musician presented to the French court in 1784. The original automaton, purportedly commissioned by Queen Marie-Antoinette and bearing a striking resem- blance to her, is in the collection of the Musée des Arts et Métiers, Paris. – Literature: Dr. J.J.L.
